    While updating our bathroom, we drained all the water from the toilet. We got had a big surprise when mice turned up. Once we installed a special toilet bowl plug, we got rid of the mice.

    I'm planning on purchasing a 60 gal. Bladder to fill up in my basement shower for an emergency water supply. It says it's for water storage for human consumption. Do you think the barrel is a better idea? I'd really like your opinion.

    I have several used five-gallon buckets double lined with 13 gallon trash bags, then with another bag filled with sawdust inside, three rolls of toilet paper and six extra trash bags covered with a sealable lid. These are my emergency toilets. The sawdust covering your liquid and solid waste will help keep the smell down. When the bag is nearly full just tie it up (twist ties) and bury it at least 200 feet from your residence and three feet down. Also, look up Humanure (on Y-tube) for long term SHTF situation. All critters poo and Mother Nature turns it all into fertilizer when conditions are right!

    When I store in mason jars, I wait a few weeks till I have like 10 full after freeze drying food, I put all the jars in the freeze dryer on test mode for the vacuum. I leave it on for about 35 seconds and it’s the best seal you can get.

    Yup, as long as the sewer is accepting you just need a bucket and a water source and flush away. A swimming pool you wouldn't want to drink from can provide a seemingly limitless amount of water for flushes. Plan B, a five gallon bucket and kitty litter, or dig a hole and use the kitty litter. Hopefully we all learned our lesson during covid to pre-stock large quantities of toilet paper.

    My son gave me this tip on how to stock a pantry, on a budget, buying what we know we will eat. He called it the "eat one, buy two" rule. So when you run out of something, buy one to replace it, and another for the pantry. So when I use up a bottle of ketchup, I find it on sale and buy two instead of just one. Little by little you will develop a stand-by pantry of things you know you use. Then it is a simple thing to just add a bag of rice and/or beans to the cart for a dollar or two. If you do this for a year, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. When you put things away, ALWAYS write the expiration the can with a Sharpie, on the FRONT so you can see it, and use the oldest first. (I know expiration dates are mostly irrelevant, but I still want to know what is the oldest and use that first.)

    I love Leisa!!! She is So knowledgeable and she answers questions. I live on $900 a month SS so prepping has gotten so very hard for me. I have a big garden so praying I will get a lot of food to can. I’m 73 and still go out foraging berries and other foods in woods but now I’m planting as much ch as I can in my yard so I don’t need to fall down banks trying to pick elderberries!!! I went down 15 feet into a ditch but I just laughed as I pulled my way up! No more of that now! So when I get my check I’ll pay bills then I prep as much as I can! I needed to hear this. Thank you here from north central Wisconsin

    I love the denatured alcohol stove with cleaning denatured alcohol. But do not use the denatured Alcohol in the can. I use it backpacking with open air but not indoors because it contains wood alcohol which is very toxic.i have cooked indoors with the cleaning denatured alcohol. The one thing to keep in mind is if you cook outdoors and in a grid down you will be telling hungry neighbors that you have food

    Put 12 bags of Dry Tec into 12 Ball jars with plastic lids. Six went into a kitty litter bucket with sifted fill dirt, and six went into a kitty litter bucket with the courser fill dirt. Most of the stones were removed. A few of the small stones that felt like clods of dirt may have passed but not many. Rain stopped me from completely covering the jars. Once the jars are covered, I was going to store the bucket with the course dirt on the more-humid, basement cement floor. I was going to store the bucket with the finer dirt in the garage. I really don't have other places for storage. Will this be OK? I don't want to corrode anything.

    I don't know exactly what kind of panels you chose, so I am making a bit of an assumption here that they will be roughly 400 watts. Now, depending on where you live, you won't get anymore than about 6 to 8 hours of usable sunlight. I am going to look at this from the "conservative" point of view, and go with 6 hours. 6 x 28 x 400 = 67,200 watt-hrs (67.2 kWh)... that's pretty good and should cover the average house pretty well given your battery storage of 54 kWh... so you will have more than enough to charge your batteries too. Note: That if you plan to charge 1 or more Electric Vehicles, those use quite a lot of extra electricity, depending on how much you drive... for example, assume an electric vehicle uses 3.5 kWh per mile, and that you use 10 miles everyday. That would be an additional 35000 watts of load each day. So, you might want to add extra panels if you get an EV.

    I've been living off grid for, will be 10 years in December, and am so glad I stayed far away from grid tied systems. For one thing, you are still answering to a corporation that could care less about your needs. Also any power that you send back into the electrical grid, you will only get pennies on the dollar in credit, while having to pay full price for whatever you draw from the grid. They will get you coming and going, no matter what. I designed and built my own system, to fit my needs, so I can expand as my needs dictate and my allowance permits and don't need to hire a licensed electrician to do so. I know that in a few years, you will be raving about your system, in all your future videos, but I'm pretty sure that behind the scenes, you will be kicking yourself for being grid tied.

    • @TheProvidentPrepper
      @TheProvidentPrepper 4 дні тому

      We considered the off-grid option. It is incredibly frustrating to work with our power company. They purchase the power at a significantly reduced rate and only give you a credit. If you don't use it, you lose it. We can always choose to go completely off grid ... as long as we still pay the power company a basic fee. They can legally charge everyone in their service area whether they use power or not. This system can be set up on or off grid. You are blessed to have the skills to design and build your own system!
